the 2 kinds of life now not only different but actually opposed. the natural life in each of us is smtg self centered, smtg that wants to be petted &admired, to take advantage of other lives, to exploit the whole universe. &specially it wants to be kept well away from anything better or stronger or higher than it, anything that might make it feel small. it's afraid of the light &air of the spiritual world, just as people who've been brought up to be dirty are afraid of a bath. &in a sense it's quite right (coping). it knows that if the spiritual life gets hold of it, all its self centeredness &self will are going to be killed &it's ready to fight tooth &nail to avoid that. he thinks you're killing him, he'll do anything to prevent you
the Eternal Being, who knows everything &created the whole universe became not only a man but (before that) a baby.. if you want to get hang of it, like you becoming a slug..
he chose am early career which involved the killing of His human desires at every turn
